I bought FFXII because I was jonesing for SOMETHING to play, and a lot of people whose opinions I respect were gushing about the game. It could very well be that my expectations were built too high, but ... it wasn't a bad game, it just felt like it was not as good as it was purported to be. (Also, I could be bitter because Okami came out only a little bit before it, and it was like everyone threw Okami over for the shiny of FFXII, and ... Okami. I LOVE that game so much. D:) For trauma to really affect me, I think it has to come with funny or cute -- the unexpectedness is really good for the sucker-punch effect, whereas in a dramatic epic story, you sort of expect bad things to happen.
No seriously -- I think the moment I really decided I liked Guren was when I realized that a) He was a "bishie" type who could smile and that he's the same creature as Mokkun, who is the snarkiest little snark EVER. Like in the dramas, where Toshitsugu is being all condescending to Masahiro, so Mokkun transforms just to scare the pants off him, and it's something like "if you make fun of him, punishment from heaven will fall on you!"

And then the radio shows.
