Actually? There's less of the froofy romance -- this is like, your apparently-pure boy (with his own dark past, of course) enters a noble home to work as a servant while he goes to school, and discovers the noble home has lots of Dark Secrets and is molested by the Beautiful Young Master and there's a Creepy Reclusive Sister somewhere and a Mother Who Committed Suicide and ...
It's more Ayashi no Ceres than Fushigi Yuugi, I think is what I'm trying to say. XD
I read and watched Fushigi Yuugi looo~ooooooo~ooooong ago, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I was an itty-bitty new fan. I liked it back then, but I was also in middle school, so maybe my judgement was totally off. XD (You're probably talking about Yui, though I know psuedo!rape happens to Miaka at some point in the story too. I forget.)
On the other hand, I think Watase's gotten better as a storyteller since then, or I'm less discerning than I always think I am. XD
SRSLY 4REELZ. I, I can't help but find this so very funny.
If you're part of the yaoi_daily community on LJ, they're posting scanlations there right now, in parts; 7/7 should be up today, and there are backlinks. :Db
LOL, yes, you're the only person I know who didn't know that. ^o^ I thought everyone knew (since the world worships her for some reason). I am not a fan of her art, so, err... wasn't that important to me. It's about time tho! You know she'd been practically wanting to draw it forever.
I dunno, it seems like there are enough other people who also didn't know that I feel better about it. XD I still have a lot of nostalgic fondness for her work (and I do like the Genbu Kaiden), so this was just really funny for me. XD The fact that the story itself is all dark quasi-victorian artsy stuff just makes it better. ♥
I've always had a strange sort of weakness for her art, despite the fact that she recycles her character designs over and over and over again. Every time I pick up one of her books I'm like, "Ah, Tamahome, we meet again! I see you've changed your clothes..." But it's still very pretty! So I guess I don't mind that much. ^^;
See, I really like all my icons -- I get ridiculously attached! -- and so I keep the ones I have. I actually use most of mine on a semi-regular basis, which is ... kind of sad. Er. XD
Maybe I do have more DW icons than you after all. XD
I love all my icons, but I don't have enough slots by a long shot to keep all the ones I want. :P So I shuffle them, and mostly just keep up the ones I use most often, or the ones I'm proudest of.
I thought that scene was a good "storytelling" icon, so I capped multiple versions and picked the one I liked best. :D
I'm an icon whore. :( Half the reason I've been trying to post/comment more is so that I can justify HAVING this many, and actually using them. XD It's easier said than done, though, especially with some of the skeptical icons, because usually, when I'm talking to folks online, I'm not. XD
Her character designs are really recognizable and recycled -- it's actually how I recognized the boyporn as hers. I saw her name and couldn't believe it, and then I looked at the art and went "... okay, right, it is." XD But it IS pretty, and there is major hilarity factor in it even when the story is on the serious/dark side; I can't actually read the whole thing without snickering. [halo]
It would, it would... now you've got me thinking that it'd be fun to do a similar icon. Argh. Might have to do a screencap search at lunch.
Ohhh, believe me, I understand. I was sorely tempted by the permanent accounts for that very reason. Glad I didn't, given the kerfuffle since then... I may not be particularly concerned about the whole thing, but they handled it badly enough that I figure I don't necessarily need to be giving these people loads of money. :P
I'm not ashamed to say that a large part of my fondness for Martha these days comes from her being the hero as a storyteller -- I like that. :D
Yeaaaah, I was occasionally regretting the permanent account thing during the kerfluffle -- it didn't affect me directly, but it was still not exactly confidence-inspiring. >_> On the other hand, while I DO have it, I'mma use those icons as I have them!
*Nods* I love that about her story. Between that and the fact that she's a scientist/academic, I really do love her. Can't wait to see what they do with her in the coming season...
Barefoot on the moon! ♥ Okay, that icon rocks.
Exactly. I still wish I had the icons, but... I probably don't use my LJ enough to reeeeeeeeeeeally justify paying for more, I guess. I don't know. It's a tough call.
I'm excited for her in Torchwood -- I know, I know, I should download season 1 eventually, especially with Kendra looming every time it gets brought up, but! Martha. :D And I'm interested to see how they get her back on the TARDIS for the end of the season, and what this season's "catchphrase" will be.
But you use your LJ more than I do -- or at least, you used to, when you had the internet at home. :p I've been making an effort to use it more often. XD
HAHAHA I saved this one for last. :3 How fortuitous!
I'm willing to bet large amounts of money that at least one of the characters looks like Tamahome.
That being said, my favorite story of hers will always be Alice 19th. Because Frey rocks. And for once she didn't kill off my favorite character. Because really, Fushigi Yugi. You got ALL OF THEM.
So far, I think my favorite of her works is the Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden -- Takiko's actually a very intelligent heroine, and the Tamahome-lookalike of the series turns into a girl when using his powers. What's not to love. 8D
