So about that whole idea I had about bakeneko a few days ago, and then my desire to CREATE A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME ONE DAY!! I have decided:
Someday, I will create a game (even if it's only in the process of imagining it here in this post XD) called "Hyaku Monogatari" (because Japanese titles are cool duhhr? :B) though with the constraints of everything, it'd probably be more like the "twenty stories" if even that BUT.
See, it would take place all within the confines of a large Japanese estate -- kind of like Fatal Frame maybe? -- one of those gigantihuge sprawling areas that nobility had back in the Heian era where there are all the little houses and lots of screens and fifty gardens.
Okay, maybe not fifty, but.
--and in the center of the house there'd be a large room with nothing but lit candles (and if one were to take the time, there'd be a hundred total, even if there aren't a hundred "chapters") and somehow after every major boss fight/chapter close you'd end up back in that room, and each time you did, another candle would be snuffed out. By the time you got to the end, when the last candle goes, that's when the final boss comes! 8D
(It'd have to be something big. Um. Possibly just an onryou trapped inside the house, but maybe even BIGGER. Maybe, if I wanted to be really pretentious, it could be Izanami herself, coming to eat you-the-player because you're one of the thousands that Izanagi gives birth to to counteract the thousands she kills.)
Or maybe what could be done is you play the first time through as a human. Maybe you're trapped? I sort of like the idea of a modern person wandering around this ancient haunted place going "wtf plz to not die, me" but it COULD be a period thing. And you could have a lantern that would be completely unreliable and blow out at awful moments! :D --but, once you played through and beat it, you'd unlock another mode, where you could play one of a limited number of minor youkai (I'm thinking your typical shapeshifters, kitsune and tanuki and maybe one other?) to play through the other fifty.
... and there would definitely be nekomata around. Which means you'd have to at least have two or three companions, so you could conviniently have a scene where one is killed for real-real and then is RESSURECTED TO BECOME THE NEXT BOSS. [wooooOOOOOoooooo]
You can SO totally tell I just got off work and I'm all headspinny from sheer exhausted WTF WHY DID EVERYTHING BLOW UP AND HAVE TO BE DONE AT ONCE TODAY?! can't you. I CAN TAKE IT, TELL ME STRAIGHT.
So possibly this would work better in an RPG format than survival horror, but at least there'd be demonic cats that could use necromancy and eat your head.
That counts for something, right?
