Dungeons in that game seemed overly excessive, yes. :\ And the save points were so far scattered that you basically had to commit over an hour if you wanted to get through the whole thing without losing your progress -- or maybe this was just me, and my bad sense of direction? Basically, I say they sacrificed characterization for plot because the plot felt big enough that, when we WEREN'T level-grinding, it had to take up all the room, leaving no time for characters. :|
But I think you've hit it on the head -- it's not hard, it's not boring, it's just ... not as good as everyone has told me, and I felt disappointed. But now I have Tales of the Abyss and Odin Sphere, and both of those have already managed to hook me, so! I'm set for a while. :3
