... nah, not really, I just figured it'd be amusing. ^^ See, my problem is, if I have something and don't USE it, I start feel guilty about having it--though I DO use this account, just not the journal itself. o_o Am rectifying that right now, go me. <3 (Well, in a sense; this will probably be mirrored at my regular blog, but for now--here goes.)

Anyway, in light of some of the summaries that [livejournal.com profile] wenlet has been posting in her blog, as well as going back to some stuff in earlier volumes, along with my own harebrained theories, something that is not entirely thought through, but kind of hit like a bunny to the brain while doing completely not fandom-related things. >_>

Okay, so I never did read the whole ceremony thing in volume 18 very carefully--yanno, the one where Maria and Lucifer and Ban combine their l33t mad witch powerz to bring Toshiki back to life? (I was too busy, er. Admiring other things that really had lots to do with the ceremony. Really. XD;;) But was struck with a thought:

The snake-demon hosted in Ban's arm is directly named as Asclepius, also known as the Grecian god of healing. Maybe I read this part wrong, but when Ban fought Lucifer the first time, and they saw the gigantic snake-bearer in the sky, I got the impression that THIS was what saved Ban's life when he went too overboard in attacking. There's also the chant-type mantra Ban uses when he's calling on Ascleipus' power, the stuff about charging the intended victim with hideous crimes, yadda yadda yadda.

So: Ban's blood was necessary to reviving Toshiki because of Asclepius, who may perhaps live up to his namesake in terms of healing factor? Which would also explain why Ban, who was not born and raised in the Mugenjou, is difficult to kill or permanently injure, as well as not scarring despite the number of slices he's taken to the chest, stomach, and arms. Ginji might be explained away by his connection to the Mugenjou, and as the "kami no ko" but Ban?

However, according to the version of the legend I'm most familiar with, Asclepius was killed by his father Apollo for daring too much--for bringing back people from the dead. (Which Ban does, though with help.) In essence, Asclepius was destroyed for his arrogance, which we know Ban has more than his share of. I know that Ginji's the one prophesized to die if he fits the Kiriwood, but Ban is connected both to Mugenjou's Raitei AND to the last remaining (that we know of) Voodoo Child, as well as being the direct descendant of the last great witch of the twentieth century.

So, in the light of the fact that Ban always seems to know all the details before everyone else (he seems to know a lot more about both Ginji and Himiko's true natures than he ever lets on, as well as a good understanding of Raitei's relation to the Mugenjou and the necessity of his leaving, and the fact that Hakase speaks directly to him, knowing his name), perhaps he knew about the prophecy meant to kill Ginji? And in light of that, when Ginji went beserk and COMPLETELY lost control of Raitei's power, that gave Ban the exact opening to cut a rift between the two of them, thus in a possibly misguided sense of protecting Ginji from what's bad for him, never mind that it's never worked before?

... However, if Gin-chan does kick the bucket (which would admittedly make me go OMGWTF NOOOOOO), it might get him a canon kiss from Ban. >_>
