nekokoban: (Naruto HUH? :D :D)

Today, I spent a lot of money, and then I was reminded that our rent is due, like, RIGHT after Sakuracon, so this whole "buying things now" might be the better thing. |D Not that I don't have the money -- I'm working extra hours because of spring break in order TO make sure I have the money -- but, still. Ow. On top of the fact that grades get posted tomorrow and I am so terrifiedof my grade in Biochem, it makes for a very twitchy me. |D

But it was the first time I went to Kinokuniya in literally months -- the last time was when my housemates and I headed down to take advantage of the Chinese New Year's sale. |D I now have this deep-seated desire for sushi -- the sort of craving where you have the taste in the back of your throat and it's THERE and you desperately want to appease it, no matter what. (Or maybe is it just me, how that kind of craving works? When I really, really want foods, it's like this phantom aftertaste in my mouth and I lose a lot of my interest in a lot of other available foods ... mm, sushi.)

And I finally have a rice cooker! ♥ I haven't busted it out yet, but I will soon! ♥ It's weird -- I went from years and years to having rice at least two or three times a week to ... for a while, about once a week, to pretty much once every month or so. D: This is not right, but now I can rectify it! if there's room in our fridge, at least, ogod.

Got GetBackers 34 -- OH GOD REVELATIONS AND EXPOSITIONS AHOY. I liked that they finally went back and explained about Eris, though, because that always was confusing to me. (In summary: Ban has really bad luck when he gets involved with any pair of siblings where one is signifigantly older than the other.) Also, Saiyuuki RELOAD volumes 4-6. I am catching up slowly! It's so expensive, sadness. D:

I also went ahead and bought the first volume of the Mushishi manga -- mostly because I was curious about how the transition was made, and also in general because I DO enjoy the series. The art takes a little getting used to -- it's very rough and uses more cross-hatching than screentone; it's kind of like looking at a manga that's completely illustrated in the style of older scrolls and illustrations. And that's not even right; it's kind of hard to explain -- it's definitely not sleek and slick with neat outlines or fancy gradients like a lot of mangaka do these days; it's like a bunch of pen sketches with screentone applied here and there.

Oh, and Ginko has stubble here and there. XD It's somehow amusing to see. On the other hand, there's a slight bit more ambiguity about when Mushishi takes place; Ginko wears his "modern," Western-style clothes, but then so does Bikki (the boy from the story with the girl's eyes) -- he wears what looks very much like a regular button-down Western-style shirt, sweater, and boy-shorts. He sleeps in yukata, and his mother wears regular kimono, so -- whut. I'm personally of the opinion that this series must take place before Japan was opened to the west, but maybe that's not the case ... ?

Overall, it seems to be a very faithful adaption, and I think I actually prefer the anime, for the bonus of the color and movement of the mushi themselves; everything in the manga art looks vaguely "strange" or "off," and while it works for the story's purposes, I sort of like the glowing unreality that the animation gives to the mushi.

I still want to find the volume where Ginko's backstory is (should that actually be something from the manga and not an anime-only invention), because I would like to read that more carefully.

... in summary: LOLZ MUSHISHI IS AWESOME U SHUD REED IT 2. |D

And my paid account runs out tomorrow DAMN IT why does the world have to throw all the money-needing stuffs at me all at once? D:
