Meep. Seriously--I KNEW what was coming; I own the manga and I've read that chapter several times--and it STILL hit me like a kick to the head to read. Certainly from this point on, unless I can justify it to myself, I think I'm going to stay solidly in AU, because the idea of Hughes NOT being there for Alicia just breaks my heart. U_U
