More like ficlets, but uh. I was entertained on the bus? Also, counting the Chop-Licker and one suggestion from a coworker, I now have six animals in my survival horror beastiary! 8D

Also, someone tried to IM me earlier today, and I type so damn fast that I accidentally lost it. If you're reading this, I'm sorry~ D:

WHEE.

P.S. People are totally welcome to keep asking, because I have this hourlong commute home and I need something to do when I forget to bring something to read. :(

Usually during the hottest part of the day Sora throws himself across the linoleum floor in the basement and lie there not moving for hours. Kairi occasionally prods him with her foot till he grabs her ankle and pulls her down, laughing, on top of him; Riku pretends to be too dignified for that, but if Kairi goes he'll sit on Sora's other side in the relative coolness of the basement for hours.

Alex, on the other hand, will sit outside on the roof, soaking in heat till he burns, which peels off to leave him sort of tanned. It's kinda cool (because apparently being a Nobody means you absorb the sun like water in a sponge but it never does anything), but it hurts like a bitch in the process.

And then one day he's surprised when the window opens and Roxas crawls out next to him, moving gingerly over the hot tiles before settling beside him.

"You're really stupid, you know," he says. "It's hot."

"Brilliant man," says Alex. He doesn't open his eyes or even move as he listens to Roxas settle. "Give him a prize."

Roxas snorts, and then something cold and wet touches Alex's cheek so that he starts up and makes a sound that is not a yelp, no matter what anyone says. He rolls away and comes up in a crouch, staring.

"Moron," says Roxas, still holding out the wrapped popsicle. "If you don't want it, I'll eat it."

"Hey," Alex protests, and then he sort of crab walks his way over to grab the treat from Roxas' hand; when he unwraps it, it's already beginning to melt, dripping stickiness across his fingers to the roof below them, and he tries to scrape it away with his boot. And for a moment he sees something reach out of the tiles and catch his foot, holding it as his momentum tries to bring it forward; through the leather of his shoe, the fingers are ice-cold.

It makes him lose his balance. He sees Roxas start up, wide-eyed, and what he ends up doing is a stupid little spinning dance to keep his balance.

Even so, he's teetering badly at the edge before he stops, and they're not that high up, but it would hurt to land on the stone below. And the whole monkey jumping thing is more of Roxas' thing, anyway.

The other part, the hand reaching from the roof, it was probably just his imagination. He's been jumping at shadows for days now; it wouldn't surprise him much.

"Man, Roxas," he says. "If you wanted to tell me to come inside, you could just say so. I'm not an unreasonable guy." He licks the popsicle; it's sea-salt, and actually not as bad as he would've thought, from the name.

Roxas relaxes back onto the roof, putting his hands down and then yanking them back up at the contact with hot tile. He rolls his eyes, but he's smiling just enough that he can't hide it. "You really are stupid," he says. "You're not really indestructible any more."

"Roxas," Alex drawls, though he's careful about how he steps as he makes his way back over. "Give me more credit than that! I didn't get all this way to just die like that." He lowers himself gingerly, trying to find the cooler spot he had before, then gives up and lets the tiles burn his butt. "Nah, if I'm gonna go out again, it'll be in a blaze of glory. Like last time. Got it all planned out."

For a moment Roxas gives him a sharp look, frowning, but then he snorts again. "You won't," he says.

"No?" Alex pauses and blinks at him.

"No," Roxas says, and points his own popsicle at Axel with a sweeping gesture similar to what he uses with the Keyblade. "I'll kill you first."

Alex considers this, then sticks half the popsicle in his mouth; even melting, it's cold enough to hurt a little. The saltiness is kind of weird, but it's something he could get used to, given time.

"Mnph," he says agreeably.

"Wings," Kantarou says suddenly.

Haruka pauses in the act of taking off his shirt and eyes him. "... What?"

"I want to see your wings." Kantarou opens his eyes wide and innocent, projecting as cutely as possible. With his mouth kissbruised and his gi hanging half-open, it doesn't really work.

"They'll get in the way," Haruka says. "There isn't enough room for--"

"I saaaaaaid," Kantarou drawled, "show me your wings, Haruka-kun." He crosses his legs and sets his chin on his hands, smirking.

And because it's an order, Haruka unfurls them, shedding feathers, and then Kantarou is all over him and while the position is sort of awkward with him on his back, it's a little more worth it than he'll ever admit.

Donald will never admit he's jealous.

After all, it's only natural that Sora would pick up magic so quickly and with relatively little effort -- he's the Keyblade Master, the chosen one, destined to save all worlds or destroy them, whichever comes first. There is magic in Sora's very blood, so once he has the spells he doesn't even need to think twice. For Donald, who spent lazy years doing pretty light shows for his King, displays for children, nothing serious -- there's something that tastes a little bitter about the whole thing.

But jealousy isn't a pleasant emotion -- it's the sort of thing that leads you down a road where, at the end, you find yourself heartless and sinking into anonymous shadows, and Donald doesn't have time for that. They've got a universe to save and hearts to liberate.

He drills Sora instead: fire at this, freeze that, electrocute the rocks, use your magic to weaken enemies before you throw yourself blindly into battle swinging hard as you can.

And at the very least, Donald can take some pride in Sora's accomplishments, because Sora might have been born to magic, but he would've gotten nowhere with it without a proper teacher.

Haruka wakes up to the sound of a ladder against the side of the roof; he lifts his head long enough to watch Kantarou climb up, then settles again.

"Haruka," Kantarou says, and there's a sloshing sound -- alcohol, then, and Kantarou already smells faintly of it. "Nehhhh, Harukaaaaa ..."

He opens one eye. Kantarou is leaning over him, framed by the full moon hanging low in the sky behind him; it turns his eyes black and his skin silver and he doesn't look quite real.

"Haruka--"

"Shut up," Haruka says, and reaches up to hook a hand around Kantarou's neck, pulling him down.

"I think," Sora said with some chagrin, trying to pluck the clingy little green thing off from nuzzling his shoulder, "what I object to the most is that she likes me because I'm a 'cute little boy.'"

After so long, it had finally come to this. Sora stood as still as possible, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down his brow. He'd known for at least two years now that this day would come, but to be honest, thinking on it too hard sort of made him freak, so he'd avoided it.

No more of that now. Do or die, now or never -- he had to make the choice.

"Sir?" The girl behind the counter blinked at him curiously. "... is there something I could help you with?"

Sora clenched his fists, took a deep breath (ignored Roxas rolling his eyes in the back of their head), and said, "I'd like to see your ring selection, please."

Also, a bonus snippet, that was supposed to be part of WACKY BEACHFUN but was orphaned when I scrapped it and started working on the Alex-is-bored-and-a-pyro story instead. 8D This, and the one higher up, would fit after "Born in Fire" but don't really do much except for establish a whole "yeah, things are coasting along nicely" feeling. I think. XD

When Sora says he likes to go fishing, Alex doesn't think too much of it till the kid kicks off his shoes and goes diving into the ocean, chasing lazily after the little silver fish that dart in the shallows.

It's a really ineffective method, but Sora seems to have fun, both with the swimming and the chasing Kairi around later when he's dripping wet, begging for a hug.

YES. I used to do that all the TIME when I would be around places with fish and water and people. YEs. Yes, yes. That is such a cute image. :: giggles::

Hee, yes, Alex would never die in such an undignified way. I would think that he's the kind to control his own life even up to that point.

;_; The ocean can be scary because of sharks and jellyfish, but salt water is fun! I haven't been to the ocean in years.

Hee. Splut. XD Poor Alex!

♥ Always!

lalalala...I'll read anything you write. Those were all such wonderful tidbits. ^_^ The ring thing was quite squee-worthy too, haha.

You know, I think I really like Kairi better in-game look than the more realistic one.

I like these here. Roxas gingerly coming up to sit with Axel and the cuteness of wondering if he's still in those odd pants or if he's traded them in for long shorts. I once saw a boy who had the most fascinating way of eating a popsicle. I imagine Axel eating his in the most sexual manner possible and looking suggestively over at Roxas. Roxas flinches as he's caught looking and feels the beginning of a burning blush itching along his cheeks. Axel smiles and wonders how much longer till he gives in.

:-) You keep inspiring me!

In the regular cutscenes. I just think she's indefinitely prettier there. What does FMV stand for anyways?

Hehe, I have a different view of Sora than you, I suppose. Of him being vaguely confused and then it slowly dawning on him and then having the ACK reaction. Then again, I just read a fic where Sora teases Riku. I think I'm getting to the point of wanting multiple chapter mini-epics in-character Kingdom Hearts fics.

And now I'm rummaging through your journal for loose change Tactics fic.

Haruka/Kantarou ♥ ♥ ♥ !!!
