[blinks] Man, you leave for class and come back to find the fandom world's just king of ... exploded. o_o Wow. XD;
Anyway, yes, I'm aware of FUNimation licensing FMA; that's too bad, one part of me says, and hopes the raws will come out; awright, DVDs! says the other side, then mourns the further loss of funds. I've got no real opinion on FUNimation as a whole--I've heard good things about their Fruits Basket translations, not much at all on their Yuu*Yuu*Hakusho ones, and the Dragonball universe as a whole doesn't appeal to me, so I avoid it. :D; But hell, as long as there are Japanese tracks on the DVDs, I'll be happy.
On the other hand, was surprised to see two of the major AU projects I work on, as well as the bitchcomm run by two of my friends, get F_Wanked on the side. :D; Maybe I'm just stupid and naive that way, living in my own bubble, but wow--we're wanky? I feel sort of self-conscious now, because I never really considered my behavior as such, but eh. >_> Wank is in the eye of the beholder, I guess? (... haha, um.)
As for the two AU projects: you know, looking at them at a distance, I can really see why people are snarking about it--as a general rule, anything that turns the characters to members of a boyband (or other suchlike derrivatives) tend to be met with doubt and mistrust, and there usually is a lot of self-fanservice in that particular undertaking. That being said, I always thought that
ciceqi was doing a smashing job of keeping the characters themselves, and same for
lazulisong. But eh, am I allowed to make such a comment, since I AM involved? I mean, I admittedly have done that knee-jerk "It's not my thing, I'm avoiding it and disliking it on principle" thing, but now that I'm on the other side of the equation, it's kind of strange. :D; Is it just the idea of it? Or?
(The fact that everyone I know who's involved in both of the projects has not squawked about the licensing makes me wonder kind of how it got brought up in the first place. I mean, could someone elucidate for me? o_o)
Then the genderswitch!AU, which certainly struck me as a surprise, but I was kind of forewarned, talking with people last night. XD; Yeah, I can see why people would snark about it, or be put off just by the general idea--and reading the link that
harukami mentioned made me wonder if the anon who DID read the fics had read band!AU and genderswitch!AU, one or the other, and then by which author. o_o I expected, starting the project, that there'd be a lot of that "......." and "ewww" reaction from people, but then it was well-recieved, so I guess I grew complacent? Or something like that. XD;
In the end, one likes what they like, and hopefully finds other like-minded folks to play together with. My wank-fu must not be strong, as this has entirely went over my head. Kind of a sad thing, really, since it's much more fun to be playing in fandom rather than snarking over it. [shrugs]
To everyone still bitching about the licensing: go here and cheer yourselves up. PENGUINS SOLVE EVERYTHING OMG. I want a paid LJ just so I can use the icons on this page, augh~~~
