Edit: Reason #54883 my workplace rocks: I mention Sandman (Neil Gaiman), and get treated to an impromptu air guitar solo and two warbled verses from Metallica's Sandman. This is after having a debate on how to pronounce "Necronomicon" and talking about Bruce Campbell as Elvis, fighting mummies. /Edit
Been finally going through the "fandom brainstorming" post on
yuletide (it's exciting! it's also SUPER MONTHS AHEAD OF TIME, which means I can make big eyes at it while still working on other stuff and not feel guilty! It's fantastic!) and amusing myself with some of the listings. It's kind of neat, really, to see a bunch of really obscure fandoms come up -- and then laugh at some people's conceptions of an "obscure fandom."
(Guys, seriously. Avatar? Bleach? Naruto? Those are not obscure fandoms. They're not even small enough to squeak through under the radar. What.)
I'm super-pleased to see tactics listed again (♥♥♥♥♥ though why someone tried to argue against it last year, I have no idea o_o), and also hey! Odin Sphere! Onmyouji! Someone even asked for The Dresden Files bookverse, joyous! \o/
I never thought of myself as being one of those OMG WTF NO purists, but -- okay, I've not seen any of the TV show, but what I've heard and what I've read makes me ... not happy. :| GUYS AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT IT WAS AWESOME THAT HARRY'S MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME WAS "LEFAY"?!
Also, the TV series doesn't have Mouse, and that means it automatically fails. [/biased fan of big dogs]
Which is to say I'm pretty sure that most of my proposed six fandoms will be at least double-nominated (honestly, I think I've only gone one that won't be -- but I don't even have six yet, so that could change!), but I'm okay with that! Yuletide is awesometastic for letting me feel less alone in my small fandoms, and I like that. :Db I mean, I like big fandoms too: I like the camraderie you can get and the ease of finding fic -- and since I rarely (if ever?) get involved actively in such things, it means I can point and laugh at the wank and the entitlement complexes and worse from afar. Does this make me a bad person? 8D
... hey, is Princess Tutu still an obscure fandom? It's not by my definitions (i.e., a lot of people I know like it! which doesn't say much), and it counted as one last year, and also by
yaoi_challenge's standards, but theirs was a bit more lenient than
yuletide's, I remember thinking. Mystery!
