nekokoban: (IM A RITER)
([personal profile] nekokoban Jul. 6th, 2010 01:55 pm)
Hrrrrrrr the 4th of July weekend was really good for me, in terms of RECHARGING! In that I slept a lot (including sleeping in later on Monday than I have in literally years) and did nothing more strenuous than sit around in the cold and wet waiting for fireworks. And grocery shopping; it is possibly a little sad, how much I genuinely enjoy looking at and selecting and buying food. :|a

ON THE OTHER HAND, with Life and the move and everything, I've really sort of fallen behind and given up on the whole writing thing, which is really bad. :[ I believe creativity is as much like a muscle as anything in my physical body, and my personal experience has always loaned itself to that--the more I write, the better I feel about what I've written, and the less likely I am to stare at the screen going "durrrr" with a face like this: :B I tried to write some stuff the other night and it felt so much like pulling teeth: things felt awkward and clunky, and my ambition outstripped my feelings about my ability. I'm debating on whether I should try a different schedule and see if that helps, though in my heart I know any changes I make will not really finalize and take until [livejournal.com profile] rinkhals moves in. :|a

SO I AM GOING TO JUST KICK MYSELF A LOT, and I am going to steal the 30 Days of Writing Meme from [livejournal.com profile] nayami and hope that actually talking about writing (especially consistently for a month) will guilt me into doing it again. And once I get started, I will keep going, and then I'll hit a point where it's not like wall+head=OTP.

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.

Oh goodness, hm. Proooobably the Ghost Story 'verse, which is a Catfish production, since I have my half of characters/plot to write, and [livejournal.com profile] sharky_chan has hers. Versions of the story and its characters have been rattling around in my head since at least early middle school; two characters in particular have survived nearly unchanged since their first inception, while others have gone through some additions, edits, and changes--but at their core, I can look back and see strong remnants of characters I scribbled about when I was first seriously poking around with original fiction.

The other part is that my favorite genre to write in is urban fantasy--actual urban fantasy, where there's underground cities and unseen mystic socities and the supernatural lying cheek-to-cheek with the mundane and everyday. I've loved the idea that creatures that are not quite human slipping through our society and how it dovetails and where it pulls apart for a long time; more than true epic fantasy (which I still enjoy reading!) I want to see a modern-day epic and a whole melting pot of mythologies and folklore and the occasional red herring. And Ghost Story has that--the main character of my main story [which I started as a NaNo in 07 and should go back to and start revising, hrr] is the grandson of a fox who's sort of reluctantly adjusting to how bizarre his family life is, and meeting his grandmother--there's the pair of characters who've made it through my flighty schooling years and are settled comfortably in their own little magic shop. There's even a super-flamboyant and outright gay vampire that is in love with a ghost and enjoys period clothing because he thinks the whole modern-day vampire thing is ~hilarious.~ It's set in a city I know very well (Seattle :B) and has connections to a city my co-creator knows very well (Boston) and spiderwebs inbetween.

IT HITS ALL THE PINGS I HAVE FOR MY OWN CREATIVITY and baww all I want to do is get it finished and share it. I don't even care about professionally publishing it, I just want to have it down in a method I am satisfied with it, and share it with folks. :(
