Minor financial panic averted. 8D Woo!

Reading an article stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose's course pack about homosexuality in Tokugawa Japan and ... I am reminded, yet again, how damn funny representations of the human body are. XD Even "realism" can be pretty funny-looking (though on the whole, the body is pretty funny to begin with); there's always something that's somehow lost in the translation of an image to the paper. You look at the grossly exaggerated proportions of the old mother-goddess statues, the ukiyo-e of Japan, cave- and classic paintings, Western comics and manga, and it's all just weird.

I sort of wish I could pull off artistic photography, because yeah, things are lost in representation there as well, but less, if that makes sense. (That, and we have this gorgeous sidewalk that is mostly swept clean, but all the leaves have fallen golden around it and are still on the trees overhead ... and then, randomly, there is a piece of a couch just sitting there. It's actually very artistic, for all that it should be an odd contrast. Also, since today was gorgeous, it would've made a pretty picture indeed.)

On a more linguistic (hah) kind of beauty (because I have this bizarre love for bad puns and such), Karuma-Doh's tactics douj have some of the best lines. D: Seriously, they KILL ME WITH CUTE.

「秋の華もキレイだけど ボクは春の華の方が好きだよ。」

(In essence, "Autumn flowers are also pretty, but I like spring flowers better." The Haruka's name is 春華 -- literally, "spring flowers." 8D)

I thought the second kanji of Haruka's name meant 'glory', or something. 'Spring flowers' would mean his name is Haru-hana, I think. I have the Chinese edition of the manga, and I'm wondering if my edition's translation is totally wrong.

Thank, now I get it. My ignorance of Japanese, as usual. -_-

Now I'm much too amused by the idea of "Spring Flowers".

Are Kurumadou just not wonderful? I harrass them as often as I can. They really have that Japanese favourite past-time of punning down wonderfully! And they can do the cute-fluff and then the OMFG RIP MY HEART OUT WHY DON'T YOU angst. Aaah love them...

I should hate it. It's pushing death-fic, but HOLY CRAP it has the cheesiest lines I have EVER read in doujin (and that is saying something). SO cheesy infact that me and fellow Kurumadou go around quoting it if something is ever too over-emotional (or we feel the sudden desire to declare out love for each other). Um yes. But DAMN if it's not angsty...

Hm. I'm going to one in a couple of weeks so it shouldnt be a problem. It's actually a series of about 4 books, and is still ongoing, but i'll just get you the angstiest best two :)

So far it spans...um...4 books and is not over yet. The last book was a special edition for the tactics event I went to so might be hard to get. Still, the first and third are the best in my opinion. And I think it's even cheesier than reincarnation.

homosexuality in .......Edo? maybe.

As my friends and I are pimping the HELL out of this movie whenever we can, check out Mayonaka no Yaji-san Kita-san sometime. Find a torrent of it, or wait until next summer when it's apparently going to be playing in limited release.

It's got a gay couple in Edo modern Edo? Japan, travelling down Toukaido to Ise in order to cure one of them of his drug addiction.

The director is Kudo Kankuro, who wrote the script for Ping Pong, Kizarazu Cat's Eye (drama and movie), Manhattan Love Story (drama), Ikebukuro West Gate Park (drama).... and everything I've seen with his hand in it is AWESOME.

Bear in mind that he's totally on crack, and YajiKita reflects that.

SO AWESOME WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
