What Riku never admits: is that he's grateful that even a horrible mistake can have redemption, and that for all the time he's spent wandering, he's still found his way home. For him the sky is never empty and the voice of the sea is like a giant heartbeat and he is held between the two, safe. It comforts him to know that if he stretches his hand upwards, the ocean will bear him up until he can touch the sky.
Kairi never says: I was so afraid for a while afterwards, I thought you two had changed so much that I'd never be able to catch up. When I remembered you again, I was so angry with myself for even forgetting, and it took me one step further away and I drift without definition when I don't have my anchors -- I can't be a Princess of Heart if mine is broken and I don't even know; I would have been okay but I wouldn't be happy -- don't leave me behind again, don't leave me alone.
And Sora, who is entirely comfortable buried as he is under warm weight, stares hazily up at the ceiling and argues with himself that he wants chocolate ice cream instead of sea-salt for once, but agrees they should all go down to the beach later, because it's really his favorite place in all the worlds -- to be standing on the shore with the sea at his ankles and the endless sky overhead.
