I can has roommate again, yay~ (I am ultimately a social creature; I like having someone around that I can go hay hay hay at, even if we're not actually hanging out. :D) AND THEN, as we agreed, we finished watching Heat Guy J!

I ... really really liked this show, enough that I am willing to look any number of its faults. chirachira compared it to GetBackers -- which is like my dear old looove -- and on the one hand, the two shows aren't really that alike, but on the other? They so are. It's a sort of feeling in the series rather than any particular content -- a sense of people being cheerfully badass and wonky and things just going UP and then DOWN and then BLOWING UP and-- yeah. On the whole, this is definitely a series I would and will rewatch in the future. *g*

miss_arel mentioned she felt like the end plot, with Shun, felt a little rushed -- and I agree, it sort of did, but ... sort of didn't. The wrap-up went kind of overly quick, but somehow, I could forgive it? But I felt that the open ending was better ultimately than a fixed one -- given Daisuke's whole thing about chaos, and action, and moving on, a fixed "this is all that happened and this is the end" would have felt like a poor ending for him. I like that he's going traveling, and I suspect he might be bringing back a whole new harem by the time he comes home, but hey. *g*

I'm still not quite seeing the Kyoko + Daisuke as a romantic pairing, despite how sweet they are with each other (angel and heat guy, haha♥). It feels more like they were acknowleding the potential of the other to become a romantic partner in the future, rather than actually becoming a couple. ... I also still think that Daisuke's gotta be getting laid on a fairly regular basis and suspect he's got no qualms sleeping with guys, so who knows! Maybe I'm biased! \o/

ALSO I LOVE CLAIR. HAVE I MENTIONED LATELY I LOVE CLAIR? 'COS I DO. Everyone says that he grows the most of all the characters (despite Daisuke being the main one) -- and it's TRUE. Daisuke feels like he's already sort of at the pinnacle of his journey; despite the threat/promise he made to J in the first episode, he's extraordinarily mellow and mature about how he handles things, even horrible traumatic events of his past. (See also: how he treated the guy who built the machine that killed his father.) Clair, on the other hand, starts as a broken little boy and grows immensely into a ... still rather broken young man, but one that is brilliant and adaptable and commanding. He's hardly stupid from the get-go, but his is an insanity that he also tightly controls, and you see him come into the full of that by the end, and it is AWESOME♥

Plus, while I'm talking, can I just say how much it amused and pleased me that Boma's actually genuinely psychotic? That the little sister he was so desperately searching for -- a popular trope in the dark broody handsome men stereotype -- was in fact a figment of his imagination? And one based on a subconsciously-remembered comment from his dead boyfriend partner, whom he killed in a huge misunderstanding that was not, in fact, anything but him assuming too much too fast and being an asshole? Ilu Boma♥

I'm STILL sad that there's almost no fic out there for Daisuke and J being awesome buddy cops. I really am. :| Also I'm still a bit horrified that pretty much everything I've written for this series has been porn -- I mean, seriously, wtf. Wtf.

In other news, I should be finishing my imaginarybeasts story (or rather, edit it since it is skeleton-finished), working on springkink or any number of things, but instead Iiiiiii ... am instead refreshing my flist in hopes of something new! and entertaining! to happen on it. :|b

Also: On the last DVD, you should really really watch the special features. grendelity found it worth, and watch it made me LOVE THIS SERIES ALL OVER AGAIN Akane put so much thought into his series, and I love the fact that J is the robotic lovechild of Sean Connery and Humphrey Bogart, okay? Okay. Akane also said that he wants to do a sequel at some point. Um...y-yes please. (There's also a bit with TakaSaku and a stuffed bunny. HOW DO I LOVE THAT MAN, LET ME COUNT THE WAYS.)

I think that the fact that they do leave the story, and even the characters so open ended makes it feel more realistic, less....picturesque and ulta! perfect in its conclusion, which is what so many series do, and that's something that never actually happens in anything ever. (On an unrelated note, Kyoko's grandad still makes me hella happy. XD I love hiiiim.)

Sadly I dunno how well I could pull off buddyfic for those two -- I suspect J's particular style of dialogue is kind of hard for me. XD HOWEVER, I did pick up one for springkink, so! Maybe I'll be able to pull it off. \o/

Roommate-thingit and I totally cheered when Kyoko's grandpa showed up with his TANK WTF. And I am so watching the extras DVD -- I think she'll be watching it with me, but even if she's distracted? I AM SO DOING IT~ I've seen a bit where Matsukaze gets tossed around for the sake of the action-filming, but. XD

I would love to see a sequel, just to see what happened to Daisuke after -- but only if they left the ending open again, honestly. XD The more I think about it, the more I like it; I'd much rather have the feeling that the world is still going on, life is going on, rather than be reminded that the series is finite and ending. XD Part of the reason I waited so long to watch the whole thing was because I didn't want it to end. :<

YAY YOU FINISHED. I was actually thinking about that yesterday and wondering if you were still sitting there with three episodes to go. XD

I don't even have words for the end of the series, because while there are parts that were so rushed, the rest of it makes me make wordless gestures and end with a sigh of contentment and a stupid grin plastered on my face. It was just all so ridiculous and over the top that I can't not be pleased with it. This whole series makes me happy and I'm not making the mistake of leaving my DVDs at home again. XD

The sequel thing if it exists is supposed to be within Daisuke and Kyoko's three-year thing, but I don't know if it's ever going to happen! I want it to really, really bad, but haha. |D If we sit around and wish real hard, something may come of it. WISH WITH ME K.

And so you know, your note about Boma being genuinely psychotic actually made me laugh out loud. I LOVE THAT BOY YES.

The ending was just like the series itself in many ways -- easygoing and still badass, so how can I really argue with that? :D I kind of want to rewatch it already. :|b

So the sequel is -- in the three years Daisuke is traveling to other cities? (Traveling for what, though, for what!) Well, while more would be good, I would be rather disappointed if there wasn't more Daisuke-and-J buddy-cop antics. :|b

Each time I've rewatched the last couple of episodes, I think I just spend it laughing at Shun and clapping in delight at Clair.

And from what I understand, the "sequel" [oh god don't get my hopes up, let's be theoretical for now] is after Daisuke gets back, within those three years. So open for Kyoko, I suppose. He gets back to, what? XD Find that Clair owns the city! Has made Shun his pet! Boma and Antonia are married and have warped ninja children! Monica has a little brother and Edmundo is an awkward, confused father! The hookers learned some economic theory [finally] and now officially own Kabuki road! And J...has been secretly longing for him for all those months, waiting very patiently for Daisuke to come and fix everything.

...You know, if this was a bigger fandom, someone would have written that by now. Yes I just looked.
