Minor financial panic averted. 8D Woo!

Reading an article stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose's course pack about homosexuality in Tokugawa Japan and ... I am reminded, yet again, how damn funny representations of the human body are. XD Even "realism" can be pretty funny-looking (though on the whole, the body is pretty funny to begin with); there's always something that's somehow lost in the translation of an image to the paper. You look at the grossly exaggerated proportions of the old mother-goddess statues, the ukiyo-e of Japan, cave- and classic paintings, Western comics and manga, and it's all just weird.

I sort of wish I could pull off artistic photography, because yeah, things are lost in representation there as well, but less, if that makes sense. (That, and we have this gorgeous sidewalk that is mostly swept clean, but all the leaves have fallen golden around it and are still on the trees overhead ... and then, randomly, there is a piece of a couch just sitting there. It's actually very artistic, for all that it should be an odd contrast. Also, since today was gorgeous, it would've made a pretty picture indeed.)

On a more linguistic (hah) kind of beauty (because I have this bizarre love for bad puns and such), Karuma-Doh's tactics douj have some of the best lines. D: Seriously, they KILL ME WITH CUTE.

「秋の華もキレイだけど ボクは春の華の方が好きだよ。」

(In essence, "Autumn flowers are also pretty, but I like spring flowers better." The Haruka's name is 春華 -- literally, "spring flowers." 8D)
