This is my gratuitous hau hau hau pity me post.

Which is to say I hate my sinuses I thought I was getting better sob. ;;

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving sinus pressure/pain that don't involve going to the store for drugs. ;;

ETA on a happier note! I went down to my favorite (and very close) Chinese restaurant to get some soup for these cruds. I happened to mention to the lady who runs the register that I was sick, and got all fussed at--she told me to have some tea while I waited.

And when she came out with the soup, she gave me an apple and proceeded to lecture me about how I needed to take it home, wash it, cut it, and eat it, because I "need to eat, or else you get more sick :<"

B-bawwwww I love that place. ;^;

Hot steam can sometimes help break things up, as can things like horseradish or strong mint. :/

I hope you feel better soon!

Can you send someone else to the pharmacy to fetch drugs for you? Last winter, when I had a GIANT SINUS THING OF DOOOOOOOM, the only thing that helped for more than 10min was Drixoral.

Sudafed didn't do a damn thing for me, either. :-/

Basically, it has 120mg of Pseudoephedrine, which is the thing that WORKS.

You have to actually go up to the pharmacy counter and ask for it, and show your driver's license (or State ID) and promise not to make meth out of it, though. It is NOT out in the regular shelves. But it's worth it!! Totally worth it.

I always feel tempted to take a power drill to my face.

that's probably not helpful, is it :(

Do you have a nebulizer? Cause that and mint. Might help.

TRY chewing really minty gum or sucking on a minty drop.

LOL Terra! Aren't you too young to be having sinus problems? Heh, scrap that, those things probably bother everyone, at some point of time, and it must make life hell. My boss has terrible sinus problems, especially in the mornings and in damp weather.

There are lots of folk remedies, but since they involve putting things in your nose (things which are not necessarily non-living!), do not want!

How about breathing in mint vapours? I've heard that helps a bit with the de-clogging. Then, there's apple cider vinegar...

There are shiatsu pressure points to help your sinuses drain. There are online diagrams that would explain better than I can, but you know the hollow along the side of your nose between your cheekbone and your nose bone? Push on those for like 5-10 seconds at a time, then push along your cheekbones. Repeat ad nauseam.

Granted it sometimes tends to feel worse before it feels better, but it seems to help me...

Also, if anyone has any garlic in the house, that helps open things up. (When I get a cold I tend to live on chicken soup, vitamin C, and garlic, either fresh or in garlic pill form...)

My grandma boils black soy sauce. It smells awful, but works well

Have anything spicy (curry, ginger, etc)? Drinking/eating that might help. Also, a makeshift Neti pot/nasal irrigation device might work, if you don't mind pouring salty water down your nose... it's gross, but it does work.

Jala neti.

Not sure how to do it without the proper instruments, though.

... I know only chinese ways and I don't even know if those work. :< I hope you get better soon though!

Spicy food, hot tea, ginger, anything with steam (hot baths, hot showers, hot tea, hot soup, etc)... I usually drink gobs of ginger tea with honey and lemon (honey soothes the throat - sore throats are always part of my sinus stuff). I've heard good things about the neti pots, but have always been semi-secretly convinced I'd, like, drown myself. Which wouldn't help.

Anyway, I hope you feel better. The crud is definitely going around - Kendra and I have both been sick all week, and everybody at the office is, too.

Probably for the best. Really, it's the HOT part of the tea that'll do you the most good, along with the honey and lemon, so you're in fine shape on that count, imho.

Yeah... I had the same "oops, I thought I was feeling better" kind of thing, but so far I'm managing to struggle through. Hoping I won't have to do a doctor's appt. next week, becauase... bleh.

Feel better! ♥

Neti pot, neti pot, neti pot! They sell them at Walgreens/CVS/etc., and I swear by them! I've heard accounts from people who REFUSED to try them, thinking they were the stupidest thing ever, who then tried them and now SWEAR by them.

A friend of mine was turned just this last week. He had the worst sinus infection and after three days of use, it was gone.

I strongly recommend them, though it feels really weird. XD

I hope you feel better!

I should probably point out that you do have to go to the store, but it doesn't involve any drugs. Which is nice that you don't have to pump yourself full of X-chemical.

Gargling saltwater sometimes helps me.

I CAN TEACH YOU TO FLUSH YOUR SINUSES |D

Steam, wasabi, and just sort of… stroking down along my nose under my eyes to relieve the worst of the pressure is what I do. Also, sudafed. None of it's permanent, but :/ IF YOU COME UP WITH A BETTER WAY, LET ME KNOW. FEEL BETTER ♥

i used to get acupuncture for severe sinus issues, and this shows you the pressure points. you have to press hard and yes, it will hurt when you're pressing (ironically, it doesn't hurt at all with the needles, but plz to not stick needles into your face without professional knowledge), but god does it work great. it should be noted that on the one they marked 'point 2' you want to be pressing the bridge of your nose, NOT YOUR EYES. when i do it i put my fingers right next to my eyes, so that the tips aren't quite touching the corner of my eye. this point on your hand also works. again, hurts when you're doing it, but helps in the end.
