Okay, seriously: is the internet just sort of deadsies recently? Noooooo, how will I stay entertaiiiiiined~ Or have I just somehow developed a really skewed view of how things are because my short-term memory is not unlike a gerbil on crack? I swear to fishes and cake that things just sort of ... dropped, just a little before the new year. It's like everyone went into celebratory drunken orgies early and haven't yet woken up from the post-holiday hangovers. :(
EITHER THAT or I have evolved into a being that lives time faster than the rest of the world, so that five real seconds is five hours to me. Both are about equally likely, especially knowing my attention span. :\
A-also, I swear the last time I looked at the people who friended me, the number was signifigantly smaller. HI EVERYONE NEW god I feelmore than a little self-conscious right now, ahahaha. Um.
Since I'm about to go on lunch break, let's have a recycled meme. :|b
Ask me about a character and I will give you at least three (3) pieces of my personal fanon for said character. BONUS: with proper encouragement, I will write flashfic to expand any particular point.
And if for some truly bizarre reason people are curious to ask me about anything else at all, JUST HIT ME! o/ I want to get to know all you new people, but even the ones I've friended for filters haven't been posting much very recently. T_____Tb

HAHAHAHA MEDICINE SELLER♥
1. I am convinced that he is some sort of minor god -- the fact that it's not even a concern if he'll win or lose once he draws the sword implies a great deal of both power and confidence, which I totally buy.
1a. When I am being super-dorky, I will say that he's the son of Amaterasu and Ushiwaka (from Okami).
2. The Other is less another side of him as the sword itself -- the god theory may apply more to the other, since I think that once the sword is drawn, the spirit inside of it possesses the (unaging, unchanging) body and THAT is what's the white-haired, dark-skinned, mononoke-killing machine. If that makes sense.
3. While he is very disinterested -- for the most part -- in unpossessed normal humans beyond finding them mildly interesting, he does find people and creatures with power approaching or similiar to his own (or a known mononoke) quite fascinating. This is how I justify him in camp. o/
4. A fan of animals. He likes and gets along well with them, unless they're possessed by mononoke, at which point then he kills them in the faaaace.
5. Never changes his clothes through the ages less because "people won't take him seriously as a medicine-seller" (he could care less about that, really) but because he likes the clothes he has. They're comfortable, they're functional, so why bother?
6. His box is sort of like the Luggage, in a way -- he just has to have a need or want of something, and it will be there when he opens the box. Like the sword (the Other), it's kind of symbiotic to his need.

3, 4, and 5, I agree with you completely! I think those are part of my own headcanon, too.
1, I've seen before and I still agree with you there! It wasn't something I'd ever considered myself, but it just... makes sense. The stories aren't really about if the Medicine Seller will defeat the mononoke, because that's never in question - it's just a matter of how much collateral damage happens along the way.
(1a, everything I know about Okami I learned from, uh, posts on my flist, that crossover fic you did, and the picture Chira drew for it. Who're Amaterasu and Ushiwaka?)
2 - huh, I never thought of that! But oooooo, it's fascinating and I like it a lot. (FEEL FREE TO ELABORATE MORE IN FIC SOMETIME.)
6, I never thought of that before, but omg COOL.
...Randomly, I really want to see a Mononoke/Spirited Away crossover. I mean, okay, I like seeing either of those crossover with anything, but that specific combination could be interesting, what with the gods and all that.

Well, mythologically speaking, Amaterasu is the sun-goddess of Japan and the origin of the imperial line. *g* In the game Okami, she's reincarnated as a wolf on earth, who's essentially purifying the world of the great evil that killed her a hundred years before. The title is a double pun, since it's literally 大神, or "Great God," but 狼, pronounced the same, is "wolf." Ushiwaka is a fruitcake prophet that mostly bedevils but occasionally helps Amaterasu; at the end of the game, you find out they had signifigant History before Amaterasu fell to earth and was killed.
Really, the Medicine Seller slots in so well with most supernatural series. XD Someday, I will write a Mononoke/Holic crossover, and it will either be fantastic, or really craptacular. *g*

Ooooo, I are edumacated! ...That sounds hella neat, no wonder so many people I know seem to like it. Puns! Mythology! Significant History! ...Japan needs to stop making video games that sound interesting, it makes it v. difficult to remain a non-gamer.

I totally broke for Disgaea when it came to gaming --
... actually, a lot of things in my life could be contributed to that. XD
My dear, if I'm in bed before 1AM I am usually shocked at myself. I don't think this is particularly good for me, but is usually how it turns out. Feel free to yell at me if you see me online when I shouldn't be, though, the more yelling I get, the more likely I am to slink off. o/
